Grass Roots Gay Rights Foundation Announces 2022 Season of Events,
Beneficiaries, and DJs for REAL BAD 33
SAN FRANCISCO, CA. June 5, 2022 — The Grass Roots Gay Rights Foundation announced today their 2022 DJs and non-profit beneficiaries. The all-volunteer Foundation produces the annual REAL BAD fundraising event that follows San Francisco’s world-renowned Folsom Street Fair on Sunday, September 25th at 1015 Folsom. The Foundation also throws RITUAL After Hours during Up Your Alley Weekend on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 at 1015 Folsom. Following tradition, the Grass Roots Gay Rights Foundation committed to donating 100 percent of the general admission ticket price of the historically sold-out REAL BAD, as well as 100 percent of the net proceeds generated by RITUAL to six worthy LGBTQ nonprofits. Last year, the Grass Roots Gay Rights Foundation donated $158,000, and has given back more than $3.4 million to the community since 1989.
Beneficiaries
The six LGBTQ non-profit organizations named as 2022 beneficiaries of the Grass Roots Gay Rights Foundation represent diverse causes within the community. The beneficiary organizations selected to receive new funding this year are:
Queer LifeSpace’s mission is to provide evidence-based training & mental health services for the LGBTQ+ community for Queer People by Queer People.
Larkin Street serves the more than 1,100 youth (ages 12-24) who sleep on San Francisco’s streets on any given night.
Larkin Street’s integrated model of care includes housing, healthcare, education, and employment services to help youth achieve stability, self-sufficiency, and improved lifelong health outcomes.
The Castro Country Club is a safe & sober gathering place for all people and a home for the queer recovery community, serving the most disenfranchised of our community, including homeless or marginally housed, low-income, formerly incarcerated, and individuals living with HIV.
ALRP’s mission is to help people with HIV/AIDS maintain or improve their health by resolving their legal issues. ALRP accomplishes this mission by providing free and low-cost legal services to people with HIV/AIDS in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The LGBT Asylum Project is the only San Francisco nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to providing accessible legal representation for LGBT asylum seekers who are fleeing persecution due to their sexual orientation, gender identity and/or HIV status.
Folsom Street Community Center
Folsom Street has worked hard to cultivate a safe, open, and inclusive environment for the kink, leather, and alternative sexuality communities while centering equity for BIPOC and LGBTQA2SI+ people.
Will Vitagliano, Events Chair for this year’s REAL BAD 33 and RITUAL said, “I couldn’t be more excited to incorporate this year's vision into all aspects of the event. My vision of building positive, life-long relationships that unite all areas of our vibrant kink community can be felt across all of the committees under the umbrella of our organization…from the meaningful partnerships we form with our sponsors, the communities we touch by way of the beneficiaries we select, the diversity of our DJs, building enhanced connections with our Hosts, and the life-long impact that our new scholarship program will have on the next generation of LGBTQ+ leaders.”
